Oh how I loved this novel. It had me hooked in the very first chapter and that very rarely happens anymore. I liked it so much that I stayed up most of the night reading it. That’s just how good of an author that Sarah J. Mass is, in my opinion. She deserves all of the credit that’s due to her too. This novel just had me captivated in its plot and the characters did too. The characters are much more than they seem and they seem to be a whole lot at times. That’s what made me so happy throughout this novel. Because to me, this novel is very unique in its own way.
In this novel the heroine is Feyre. Feyre is the only one her family that actually cares about their survival. When Feyre was younger her family lost all of their fortune and they are now living in poverty. Because of an issue that someone had with her father, he now has a bad leg. And while she loves her sisters dearly, they think of nobody but themselves. So to feed her family she learned how to hunt, when no one else would. She’s been hunting for years now when she came across the wolf. A large wolf was stalking her prey and just when he pounced upon it she shot him. Not wanting to let him go to waste she skinned him and takes the deer with her. After selling the furs, drying half the meat, and preparing the other half Feyre thinks that her family is fine. However, when a beast shows up at their door demanding a blood payment, she knows that they’re anything but fine. The Beast is fae and is claiming that the wolf was also fae. In demanding that a life must be paid for a life the Beast lets it slip that it doesn’t always mean death. And since Feyre killed the wolf she is now responsible for going with the Beast. One thing about Feyre is that she dislikes the fae. They used humans as slaves and they were very cruel to them. So now that she’s among them she doesn’t know what to think. All she knows is that she won’t fall for this fae Beast’s charm if she can help it.
Sarah J. Maas has done it again. She’s made a delightful young adult fantasy novel that many have adored. It would be hard not to see why when it’s got so much action, adventure, romance, and mystery about it. It was so masterly spun that I was instantly hooked into it and it didn’t want to let it go. That’s just how good the plot was too. The plot was a little different than how I thought it’d go. Then the twist towards the ending just made the whole thing perfect. This would make a great stand-alone novel, but I’m sure all of the readers appreciate it that it was made into a series. That’s why I’m writing such a positive review on this novel. This really is a great novel and I highly recommend that you read it. Especially, if you’re a fan of young adult fantasy novels with the kick-ass heroine.
