This novel was just as good as the last one. I, for one, am a big fan of Sarah J. Maas and what she can do to a novel. So far I haven’t disliked a single one that she’s wrote and I don’t believe that I will anytime in the future. That’s how much they mean to me. These novels are putting a spin on the way that I see fairy tales. Because she takes stories that we know and makes it her own, except for this series. This series all about her and it’s proven to be one that I’ve really fallen in love with.
Celaena is now the King’s Champion, or the King’s personal assassin as she likes to call it. In an effort to free herself she’s now bound to do what the King says for the next five years. It’s a job that she’s more than happy to do if it means her freedom is given back to her. However, Celaena isn’t doing the job that the King thinks she’s doing. She’s not killing any of the targets that the King been telling her to eliminate. She’s helping them to hide far away from their homes in an attempt to save their lives, and to disobey the King. Because even though Celaena is an assassin she still has morals that she goes by. Even if Prince Dorian and Chaol don’t believe that she does. Nobody questions her allegiance to the King, not even Nehemia the best friend that she’s come to love. Everything was right we’re Celaena wanted it all to be, but the King had different plans entirely. He orders Celaena to kill a man that she knew long ago and now the stakes are considerably higher. Not one to kill an innocent Celaena tries to come up with a plan. However, everything changes when her best friend is killed. Now Celaena is on a warpath and nothing can stop her from getting what she wants.
This novel is a great example of a dystopia type young adult novel. It’s got a bit of romance, action, and assassin fighting all mixed into it. It all revolves around a heroine assassin figure that just boost up all the excitement factors that can be found. It’s a story line that we don’t see very often, but that is appreciated very much. The plot of this novel is very well thought out and was very well written. Making it a very excellent read before a very excellent author. So my recommendation for this novel is a very good one to say the least. I highly recommend this novel for all urban fantasy, young adult, and assassin loving readers out there. It’s definitely one that needs to be added to your collection soon.
