Oh my God, I fell in love with this novel so fast it’s ridiculous. It’s honestly hard not to when you have a plot like this one hanging around though. It just draws you in and doesn’t want to let you go. Just the type of novel that I’ve been waiting to read and I’m glad that I finally was able to. This novel is based off the Baba Yaga novels, and it’s a series that we’ve all been waiting for. It’s a novel that focuses on the Riders, and their problems after losing their own magic.
Mikhail Day is still having a hard time coming to terms with what happened to him. He not only fell into a trap, but he dragged his brothers into it with him. Stripping them of their immortal powers for good. This mistake has haunted Mikhail for almost a year now and to get away from these feelings he’s isolated himself in a cabin. An the last thing that he wants is for anyone to show up and disturb him. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens when Jenna shows up at Mikhail’s cabin in obvious distress. Jenna’s whole family has been cursed to give up their first born child for centuries now. Nobody in her family has ever been able to break the curse, but one came pretty close. An because of this curse that was placed on her family Jenna has vowed to never get pregnant. Unfortunately, after trying very hard- and taking plenty of countermeasures- she still ended up pregnant. Now Jenna is currently on the run. She’s trying to run as far as she can to escape the fate that wants her baby, but luck has never been in her favor. While on the run Jenna’s car breaks down on the side of the road. Then while she’s trying to hike through the woods, she trips and sprains her ankle badly. Leaving her to come to the first door that she sees. Which just happens to belong to a very unhappy Mikhail. Mikhail could curse the gods for his bad luck. Having to help a pregnant woman in need isn’t exactly on his to-do list. However he finds himself intrigued by her and soon resigned himself to his fate.
This novel can be found in the romance section of any bookstore out there. Because while this novel is an adult urban fantasy novel, it focuses more on the romance than anything else. A romance that isn’t wanted by the main character, but is one that he reluctantly has himself falling into. Which is a plot twist that we don’t see very often. Let alone one in a novel full of Baba Yagas, dragons, immortal riders, and fae from another dimension. Add to it the special circumstance the main character is in and you have a wildly outrageous novel that is just too good to put down. So for my recommendation on this novel I’d say that you’d better give it a try. Because it’s the type of novel that all urban fantasy and romance lovers out there won’t soon forget about.
